Welcome to the Akong Rinpoche Foundation!Continuing Compassionate Activities
The Akong Rinpoche Foundation is a UK based, Tibetan led charity that has been established to fulfil Akong Rinpoche’s vision for his monastery in Tibet (Drolma Lhakang), as well as giving practical and financial support to Tibetan, Northern Indian and Nepali communities for education, health care, social welfare and economic development.
Since my fathers sudden departure from this world, we his family, more than ever appreciate the work he has been doing to help others throughout his lifetime.
It is through his selfless dedication to help others that we have set up the Akong Rinpoche foundation.
With the support of my mother, sister and two brothers I am now going to fulfil his vision for Dolma Lhakang, and support other projects our father would have wanted to support.
Akong Rinpoche’s Quotes:
“Negativity is always there. Just…Let it go.”
“The Buddhist principle is to be everybody’s friend, not to have any enemy.”
He told me, “There is nothing better than compassion.” When I was stressed he smiled and said, “better not to take it all too seriously.” ~ Few words. Huge impact.
“Wherever and whenever we can, we should develop compassion at once.”
“Strive always to be as kind, gentle and caring as possible towards all forms of sentient life.”
After carrying my tenth sheet of plasterboard up to the top of the new monks building Rinpoche said, “Hard work but dharma is harder.”
“Reminding ourselves of how others suffer and mentally putting ourselves in their place, will help awaken our compassion.”
Once when I told Rinpoche I was afraid, he smiled and said “Don’t worry its just your fear.”
“Obstacles arise. If you deal with them through kindness–without trying to escape–then you have real freedom.”
When tidying the chairs in the dining hall and putting them into coloured sets, he said “There is enough chaos in the world, so have organisation where you can.”
